About the Photographer
Red Skye Gallery's George Shaw was born in Southern Alberta in the early 1940's and raised on a dryland farm at the north end of the Porcupine Hills east of Highway #2. Enjoying retirement following a successful career with the Calgary Board of Education, he has put his passion for photography to work in capturing the skies of southern Alberta and the old farmsteads and buildings that represent the history of this land. Watch for his third book due out soon portrating the vanishing grain elevators that were at one time a familiar sight on the horizon but have been since torn down to make way for modern technology.

In the beginning... George's first book "Don't Forget to Close the Barn Door" is an up close and personal photographic journey visiting some of Western Canada's old barns - many of which, in their day, were state of the art master works but have been left to the ravages of time and the elements which have worn away the original splendor but still outbuildings played int he large picture of our heritage.
Shelters and Dreams is the second in the series from Red Skye Gallery. It focuses on the old houses that were home to many a family in years past. When looking at the photographs, one has to wonder at the tenacity of our forefathers and the trials and tribulations they faced each and every day. Many of these old houses were 'grand mansions' in their time but have been left to decay and wither away at the hands of Mother Nature. It is a very thought provoking look at the past.
